Search

I'm in search of a person,

I won't ask her to be good to me

Though I would like her to be talking

For words is all I have, to share

I don't garb with richness or with wealth

My life hasn't borne the fruit of bliss

And she must know this quite well

I'm running away from reality

And her dream must keep me in it

She don't have to be beautiful

She don't have to be great

All she has to be is true

And smile and cry, at least.

RUNAWAY WOMAN

She is looking so pale, so ill, so ugly

Her looks was the envy of her place

She was in love with a man, they say

Was a man of losing words and faith

She knew the blade she was walking on

She was well aware of its edge

She tried her self and her luck

And rode out with him in tow and afar

Nowhere was she to be found again

But one lone night she came back

With stories untold of her gory past

Her love was tested by time

And she stayed afloat, content with luck

She set out of the town, beauty on ride

Never to come back the way she went

Pity was in air and dislike too

Words flew around on her arrival

She was in love and that was it

She was in love with a man of low means

A man they called the assassin

She was in love with the bad he wore

And his death was her stepping stone

She came back to her old self, not sorry

No regret of any sort, no feeling of wastrel

She has no kin to go out or in

For she was love with an assassin!

If I kill myself tonight

It's truly difficult to comprehend how life gets in to a living being and how audacious it seems to be when it decides to stay there for a long sojourn and an apprehensive detour. Life can be shortened but time can't. Slowly, everything gets under the rein of time and humans get enslaved. A thin sheet of anonymity lies between life and death and every other second, a person longs to get on the other side. There are possibilities that a human in his short course of correct lifetime, will learn to skip and get back too. We don't remember the most beautiful and the most secured part of our life and that nine months can't be analyzed physically or by any scientific way. During that time, death mattered not an iota at all and that was not because it was vague or unsophisticated, but because when a breathing being is left to muster for itself, it can get persuasively tough to do so but when that being is imprisoned in some stranger's womb for nine months time, that means giving up death and embracing nascent life.

The words that will follow now have rolled through my blank room of mind with no reason at all, and they can easily be discarded as germs of irresolute wisdom!

The other times when I realize the benefits of life and breathing, in particular, are the times when I see that for no reason, there are umpteen varieties of foolery around and that fear of baloney has nothing to do with anyone else but due to my own sweet self. None of my rationality can save me from impending chastity and hopeful comeuppance and meantime, I get to know my worth and my dying aspiration's worth and my lung's worth.

More than half of time I've been alive, I tend to derange my life with obnoxious knock of infidel trust in death. Death can cover its blanket anytime. It won't adhere to anyone's command. It is still, stagnant, calm and efficient. It will do its deed anyhow. It doesn't need to be restrained or reviled. It will go on and on and on, like it always has, trying to leverage against the ratio of life on Earth. It is getting close to its destination where it will be on par with life.

Humans have always made a mockery of their ways by trying to subjugate things that are at greater might than their own reclusive erudition. Cavemen to modern day scientists have tried, in their best way, to go through nuances of death and what causes it to augment its superiority over any prostrating character on face of ground. Illness, malady, curse, benign disease, sadness and depression are some of the beginners of this play. Once they set into motion, drama enacts and life loses its battle one moment at a time. Nowhere in the near history or far future will there be such collision between knowledge and ignorance, knowledge of knowing that we are ignorant and we are ballistic about our shortcomings, even though most of the times, we start wondering are we that deep neck in disillusion. Nobody can help or scourge what we are up to and no one can calmly get us back to enlightenment.

We have wasted more than of our history in finding and naming and pleasing a GOD that never existed. Fear can be called the mother of this GOD. Men from times unknown have tried to subdue reasoning and act impulsive under the so called instinct of survival. In that way, animals have scored better and have evolved in a more ingenuous manner, making them resistant to environmental changes and other survival criteria. Religion was born of this cacophony and this theism, deism and ultimately sexism can all be let attributable to GOD. In the first place, there was nothing and in the last place too, there is nothing but the vacuum is filled with anonymous rituals which culminated into religions, some pagan, some outright orthodox and some puritanical! Whatever the process, the result has been far more disappointing than anticipated. Religion is personal to humans, that's just like any other belonging be it materialistic or memorial, one gets instigated with its undue usurpation either in the form of blasphemy or heretic questioning.

Who are we decide who is our master, who are we to denunciate the reasons for his or her or its existence. How many of us are going to surpass the yardstick of longevity and enter eternity. How many of us will not be judged on malicious weights of doubt. What importance does goodness hold against the evil that perpetuated since time unknown? These are questions and these are very vague not only in its output but also in its intricate irrationality. Who on the face of this earth has entered and left with not a stain of due misappropriation of guilt or undoing? Not even a single person, not even Jesus, not even Buddha, not even no one. That's the reason why I find the very quest for GOD a futile attempt at innocuous waste of time. No one is answerable to anyone and everyone understands it appropriately yet tries to defend their right of knowledge with eloquent inquiry. All words spoken are not to be accepted as final frontier of context. Every has to be refined and put in the pot of debate and if democracy is what they say is the best form of government then what about majority idiots ruling while the minority recipients waiting for their voice to be heard.

Enclosure is a prison which needs no slammer to justify its presence and all bondage, small or big, definite or indefinite has to go through trial, a verdict to be passed, gradually, and often in the righteous side. Nowhere do we see the sun rising slowly or in laze. Each sun and each bird chirping in its welcome is a sign of freedom that can't be vindicated, either by force or by emotion. Certain people give up their freedom to choose just because of their ultimate depth in their faith and that's where all the incessant murkiness starts to culminate. Freedom can be impugned to some extent but curtailing it will produce the very same effect it does, as shown in reluctant history; claustrophobic captivity.

Tibet's purple cause

Let's turn to Tibet for a change.

Tibetans have always shown their faith on their sleeves. They could easily be called the most taciturn and harmless human species on whole of earth. Their purity of way can't be questioned in any form. They have always adhered to the Buddhist way of life in the best possible manner. But in recent days, what we see is nothing short of an explosion and with monks running amok on Lhasan road is nothing short of deep hurt spectacle of tyranny. How strange to see these monks clad in purple altar showing their disappointment at being so subjugated and strangulated in their own land. China has a culture of transgression and that is true for any other empire that could claim itself to be historically great, but continuing this medieval psychology won't let China play its cards well in the game of upmanship, as United States did in post-WW era. Every other nation with even an inkling of what's happening on the roof of the world and still feigning insouciance is liable to be threatened with future repercussion in balance of world power.

China could have easily overcome this huge obstacle by playing it soft handed. It should have shown its better records at handling human rights issues. Even USSR progressed well in this case, post Stalin epoch massacres. It can't be refuted that China is garnering an old mask of Bolshevism with upright scepter of capitalism on its fiery pace to conquer the world. Its maddening to know that even a common Chinese is so spoon-fed with China's impending glory that they are not bothering to look at the other side of reasoning. Who are the people that are going to be persecuted, made to embrace an alien and detested culture? Tibetans, of course.

India can't be exonerated for it's cowardice in its neighbor's affair and trying not to get entangled in China's wrath but on the other hand what we see is endearment on China's side to fuel the mistrust between Indo and Pak border. Strange!

Threat of Regionalism in India

Regionalism is an issue that the India has faced even before the time of independence and will have to keep on facing. The latest issue to bring up the issue of regionalism is the Hogenakal drinking project, just some kilometers away from Bangalore, over whitch the two affected parties parties, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka came to literal blows. The dispute emerged from the log standing dispute over the sharing of the Kaveri River.

This issue is among a long list of issues that have started to highlight the sharp divide among regional states of India where the overall national interest has been reduced to a secondary status.

Indian regionalism has come in three varieties, regionalism, parochialism, and secessionism.

The emergence for the need to forge out a regional identity based on language, religion, culture or region has been given rise to the tendencies of regionalism. Some of the cases where the Federal Structure of the Indian Constitution has been threatened by the regional aspiration including Kashmir also has worldly connotation. Also the demand for a separate homeland of Telengana in Andhra Pradesh has already threatened to turn messy.

Recently, many regional aspirations has resulted the creation of three new states in the form of Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and no one is betting against that number increasing in the near future. For many years, there have also been calls for regional separation in the quest to chart their own course emanating from the North East states, part of the Seven Sister States, but the government hasn’t relented to their demands, yet.

The creation of states based on language did not, however, lead to the extinction of regional sentiments. This now expressed itself in the shape of asking for a better deal from the Centre. The pioneers here were the Tamils, who argued that the Central government was a captive of north Indian (and specifically Hindi-speaking) interests. The protests were loud, and successful; in 1967, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam became the first regional party to win power through the ballot-box. They were later emulated by the Akali Dal in Punjab, the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, and the Asom Gana Parishad in Assam, all of whom won state elections by successfully claiming that they stood for the rights of their regions against the hegemonic domination of the Centre. These parties proclaimed themselves regional by their very names, but it is also possible to view the West Bengal unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) - at least during the period when it was led by Jyoti Basu and its finances taken care of by Ashok Mitra - as a regional party claiming to stand for the interests of Bengal and Bengalis against the Machiavellian designs of New Delhi.

Thus, regionalism in India has come in three varieties - regionalism properly so called, parochialism, and secessionism. The odd, and possibly unique, thing about the Ulfa is that it has simultaneously partaken of all varieties of regionalism. That is why the common people of Assam have never turned completely against the militants, for the sentiment of being left out, of being discriminated against, is pervasive among them too. They may not agree with the Ulfa's wish to forge a separate nation, or approve of its killings of migrant labourers, but they yet feel that their state has been treated with contempt and condescension by the rest of India. So too with Nagaland and Kashmir, the two other states where regionalism has been both violent as well as intractable, refusing to arrive at a compact with the Union of India.

If the politics of India continues to be played out on regional, regional or even a cultural plank, the regional aspirations of many will continue to be encouraged, and more and more demand of separation fired either by a Xenophobic belief or otherwise will continue to be threaten the secular and Federal fabric of our constitution.

ICL Versus IPL

VS

The so called Rebel Cricket League, christened the Indian Cricket League just completed its second edition of its 20-20 competition. After having sat through most the matches, I have come to the conclusion that it was definitely a good watch with all the thrills and spills and the added masala that this format virtually guarantees.

Apart from the entertainment that the competition provided, another thing that made it a success was the level of competition and the skills and talents on display. There was a marked improvement in the quality of the matches, which was aided to a large extend with the inclusion of the team from the across the border, the Lahore Badshahs. The team made up of the biggest names from the past and present players of the Pakistan national team took the level of competition to the next level, which I’m happy to say that the other teams were able to match, albeit in the last leg.

The inclusion of the Badshahs proved to be the master stroke that caught the attention of the masses not only in India but across the border and even garnered interest internationally. Although the Lahore team was beaten in a nail biting best of three final by the Hyderabad Heroes the tournament was richer for their presence, with some calling the Lahore side better than their national counterpart.

The final’s which was decided by a ‘Bowl Out’ was enough to give a Bollywood potboiler a run for its money. It will be very interesting to see how the much bigger IPL shapes up. With its relatively mediocre amount of investment that went into the ICL tournament, it was a much safer bet, but when you consider the amount of money that has been pumped into the IPC, it has be much bigger hit financially if it has to be adjudged a success. The competition between the two rival leagues can best be summed up like a real tight game of cricket.

“The ICL won the toss and decided to bat first and looking at the wicket they’ve put a good score on board. Looking at the squad of the IPL, they seem to be the favorite with the pressure and the stakes being real high, but it's going to be good chase and we have a good match on our hands. Spectators can expect a real cracker. May the best Win”
