Today we mourn the death of Sarabjit Singh, a casualty of tragic circumstances and the pathetic ineptitude of the power that is.
In the debris of the sad stories that’s left behind, where are the evangelists of peace and the crusaders of the right - the likes of Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal? Is this issue not worth their time? Why is there empty rhetoric flowing when solid actions, unflinching solidarity and wholesome support are required the most? Where are the rallies and the mass uprising to jolt the administration into action? Why are the government and the administration keen to shove it under the mat when concrete results is pivotal at this hour? Who will answer to the family reeling under this great loss? Why are there mere spectators taking up space when firm voices and strong hands are needed to make a difference? Why are even the candle light vigils conspicuous in its absence? Are we going to let this pass without an aorta of regret or rue?
It’s time we ask ourselves what are we prepared to do to make a real impact. Will we be standbys when a call to action is what is called for?
Let us make our collective failure for Sarabjit Singh a lesson and make sure such a tragedy is never repeated. If not - our country and its people will be continue to be let down by the insufficient and the corrupt.
