Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs & Influencers
Optimism & Resolve
Chances are that when you decide to share your views or unveil your
grand designs to pursue against the odds or in contrast to conventions, there
are likely to be more naysayers or pessimists lining up questions and casting
doubts than supporters who earnestly offer gesture towards willingness to
assist. So to begin with it is better to be an eternal optimist than look for
affirmations and reassurances. As a caveat, although not all optimist ends up a
success, chances are that if you are an optimist, success will eventually
follow.
The classic case of an optimist is Colonel Harland Sanders, who was
fired from a variety of jobs throughout his career before he first started
cooking chicken in the 1930s when he was 40 years old, that too during the Great
Depression. However, in the 1950s the Colonel was forced to close his business
and retire, being almost penniless, but not without hope, surviving on only his
$105 monthly pension check. He didn’t give up, and was rejected more than 1,000
times before finally finding his first partner. His optimism and resolve allowed
him to franchise Kentucky Fried Chicken when he was 62, and become an
international icon after he sold his company at 75.
Calmness & Passion
As anyone with many responsibilities to fulfil and roles to play
understands, things eventually will go wrong, and you will be reminded of the
Murphy's law and dread over it, whilst being in the centre of the storm, with
expectations and may be employees , looking upon you to pull you out of this
trouble. So at this time it is important to stay calm, and although a tornado
might be wrecking up your confidence inside, it is pivotal to hold the fort in
front of those that matter and be calm - easier said than done though - and at
least masquerade to be in control, and be so self confident or even ignorant
enough that you are sure that you will get out of this, even if it takes all
that you have.
Calmness and passion is epitomized by Mr Elon Musk who made $180 million
when PayPal was acquired by eBay in 2002. He invested $90 million into SpaceX and
Tesla, but the company as yet were only losing money. In 2008 all felt lost
when SpaceX's Falcon 1 rocket failed for the third time, and Tesla almost went
bankrupt two days before Christmas.
Mr Elon Musk didn’t mean to go down without a fight nor did he show the
real trouble he was in, but now he only had about $40 million left. So he made
a prudent, well thought out, yet hard decision to put in all his money into the
companies to make sure it doesn’t die as he believed in himself and the
company. Furthermore, now Mr Musk got divorced and had to borrow money from his
friends to pay his rent. Today both his company, although still fledgling as per its potential wonders,
is one of the most recognised and Mr Elon Musk’s personal wealth is estimated
to be $22 billion approximately. He has already started tests for a trip to
Mars.
Innovative
& Prudent
Complacency and lethargy has brought great colossus to their knees.
Those who refused to shift their emphasis from their core area of expertise or
deviate from their beloved product or brand that has paved their way to the top
could see a cascading descent to the bottom with enterprising and innovative
entities taking over by beating the established behemoths at their game, just
played with updated, more flexible rules enabled by technology and inspired
ideas of that eureka moment ilk to push aside the status quo.
The pulsating power of innovation is illustrated by the success of the Pulsar
brand of motorcycles by
Bajaj, headed by Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, and
salvaged by Abraham Joseph, now the company’s Chief Technology Officer. The mid-90s also witnessed a major shift in the preference of Indian
consumers from the trusted scooters to the masculine motorcycles. By 1999,
motorcycles had overtaken scooter sales for the first time in the country.
Bajaj Auto was caught in a flux and the company was no longer number 1 but was now
relegated to the 4th spot behind Hero Honda, Yamaha and TVS Suzuki.
The Pulsar not only transformed the way Indians commuted, but also
changed the DNA of the country’s second-largest two-wheeler maker that till
then had been successful but was stuck in the glory of their past laurels like
the blockbuster scooter, Chetak.
Other than priming Bajaj to be a major player again in the booming
segment, and transforming Bajaj Auto into a respected maker of motorcycles, the
Pulsar did plenty more for Bajaj from a branding, reinvigorating an
unimaginative delivery line and advertising standpoint. Pulsar was not just a
bike for Bajaj Auto. It was a do or die product. It was one single product that
virtually saved the company.

Lessons ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Can Teach Entrepreneurs & Business Leaders
As the hullabaloo of the cricket world cup subsides and the heady emotions transmutes into introspection and analysis, it is a good time to think of the learning that fans, aficionados, consultants, experts, management, entrepreneurs and leaders et cetera can take out from the extravaganza that gave us a final for the ages that deserve a study in itself. Here are 4 points that I have gathered through the course of the World Cup that can play a pivotal role in meaningful successes of firms in the short and long-term.
Don’t Depend On Those At The Top To Perform Always

As was aptly highlighted in the semi-finals between India and New Zealand, being too dependent on the top order can leave the middle and lower order dangerously exposed, especially when it is inexperienced, and can cost the team dearly. India, which emerged from the group stages on the top spot with strong performances from Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul & Shikhar Dhawan, was found wanting chasing a small total when the top 4 wickets fell cheaply and the following batsmen weren’t prepared to take on the added responsibility resulting in an excruciating defeat for the fancied team that resulted in their exit.
Likewise, when a team in an organisation is heavily dependent on the top management or top performers alone, the firm leaves itself precariously exposed when it comes to scaling up operations where resources are stretched to the limit and every member of the team is expected to lead their area of expertise. Being over-reliant on some limits the organisation's growth potential and can truly expose its frailties in the crunch moments. A casing point here is again the Pakistan team, which was so depended on the lone hands of Babur Azam, Mohammad Amir, and Shaheen Afridi in the later stages, that the team narrowly missed out on a trophy where they had recently won the Champions Trophy at.
So it’s not what he alone Kane, but what the team can. Kane Williamson just had to be mentioned here. :)
When Facing Challenges Or Opportunities It Is Always Better To Be Patient Than Flamboyant

West Indies was among the most watchable teams in the world cup blessed with the biggest hitters in the world like Chris Gayle, Carlos Brathwaite, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, along with mighty fast bowlers who can bring some searing heat with frightening bouncers like, Oshane Thomas, Shannon Gabriel, and Sheldon Cottrell with his trademark salute celebrations. However, all this flamboyance seemingly counted for nothing when you look at the final standings, where they ended second from the bottom. Their over attacking batting and balling, which is exciting to watch and has earned them many followers; cost them many matches where they were in the driving seat to dictate terms.
In the business domain, be it a start-up or a tenured enterprise, unwarranted aggression while scaling up, or imprudent hiring policies or overestimated business prospects seriously dampens the inherent potential of a company. Balancing attack and defence, in keeping with the current situation, systematically gauged after deep analysis of macro and micro factors, will deliver the desired result rather than decisions dictated by what looks or feels nice at the moment, or just playing to the gallery.
So until the time is right, patience and poise will help to look past the clutter and noise.
It’s Not About How You Start But How You Finish

Many teams had a good start to the world cup whilst many began badly but that necessarily didn’t dictate where they finished in the grand scheme of things. The teams that began well like West Indies & Bangladesh faded in the crucial stages of the campaign, but teams like Pakistan that began abysmally, almost made the semis at the cost of New Zealand who had three straight losses, whilst England who didn’t look like qualifying in the middle of the tournament surged in the back end and eventually became world champions. So, rather than resting on the laurels of a good start or vilifying oneself for a bad beginning, it is crucial to keep the drive to excel going longer and stronger, even after promise of glory or illusions of ruin, and focus on the big picture and be ready to make the most of all the opportunities that might come your way. Therein, a firm who has a great beginning vis-Ã -vis clients, funding, pitch wins, awards and recognitions et cetera shouldn’t be satisfied with early accolades, as a firm’s reputation is cemented over the long run and it is the most consistent & motivated team that truly triumphs. Furthermore, a team that begins slowly and finds it hard to gain traction, can still surpass the competition by taking its time in building the team, its values, infrastructure and processes that best positions it to make the most of the boom time, along with the challenges progress throw up.
When it comes to glory, it is all about where and how you finish.
Diversity, Competition & Differences Makes You Stronger
As was beautifully displayed by England, it was its diversity that ultimately proved to be its greatest strength. With players that traverses geography and culture including Captain Eoin Morgan from Ireland, the super over hero Jofra Archer from Barbados; the English cricketers of Pakistani descent, Moeen Ali & Adil Rashid; Jason Roy, born in Durban, South Africa, proudly representing England, and Ben Stokes, son of New Zealand rugby league player and coach Gerard Stokes, who moved to England at a young age, whose contributions in various crucial stages sealed the world cup for England for the first time in a nailbiting epic of a finish.
In apropos, the true strength of the company is also its ability to handle various situations under trying circumstances that separate the great companies from the mediocre. The different ability to cope with demands of a competitive environment, calling upon the resources that are instilled in individual members, especially when the job at hand calls for a heightened level of creativity, innovation, skill and expertise, where successes are often dependent on minutiae factors, makes all the difference.

If You Are Nice, It’s A Responsibility To Finish First
We have all heard of the adage that nice people finish last, which has been hammered into our consciousness. But what it really should read is nice people should consider it a responsibility to finish first.
We should not just consider it something to achieve if we could, but give it the added incentive & active drive to leave no stone unturned and realize the goal of not just finishing among the top but right at the pinnacle.
Now, you must wonder why add the additional pressure of making success a responsibility, right? Well, allow me to list some points that could make your success something that provides that extra bit of motivation that’s the difference between finishing first or being amongst the obscure, unrecognized effort.
Nice Guys All Over The World Deserve Better Examples.
We are bombarded with stories of success and accolades of people who have accumulated wealth, fame and glory, by finishing first among equals, but not for the right reasons, nor by employing the right means.
These stories do nothing to inspire the nice fellows who are trying their best to be better whilst upholding the most underrated of traits, of being good. So as a consequence, the more dopey the athlete, the more cruel the industrial baron, the more manipulative the pilferer, the more philandering the celebrity, or how abusive the tycoon etc, etc, they are nonetheless portrayed as the best example of inspiration for the next generation, which only leads to more of them for us to endure.
The list could go on and on, but just wonder, wouldn’t we be better off if we could focus less on the Narcos & Breaking Bad of the world and focus more on the Keanu Reeves among us... perhaps not the best example but you get the drift. So all the nice guys, be good and finish first, becoming the example that inspires millions or even just one.
Give The Other, Somewhat Maleficent Folks, Something To Think About.
Films & other popular media is filled with good giving it back to the bad guys & coming up trumps, overcoming all adversities & emerging the champions of all that’s pure and pristine. But the fact remains there aren’t many stories in real that - particularly the nice folks in question, the impressionable youth, and the perpetual optimists – fill us with zeal and passion for the possibilities at hand.
In fact, it does the opposite. It offers encouragement to the less desirable elements, the not-so-needed sorts, an extra boost for reaching the top and without having to worry about too much about the cost of their action on people who are less fortunate but indirectly also have consequences on nature and history as a whole.
However, if the good guys rally by aiming for the top spot, chances are there those undesirables might not get their own way always or even they might be dissuaded from using nefarious ways to the top, or in fact, just by luck, they will be turned into one of the good guys... maybe, just maybe. Isn’t that a good reason to work towards being the best without worrying about what has transpired up till now? So, go on, be Rocky, of the real kind.
Be Nice & Let Your Success Really Matter.
Just imagine that you are nice, finished first, and you achieved this adhering to all the goodness that success is at liberty to allow. Then there is no limit to the good that can be done in every single part of the beautiful creation we are part of. Your success not only makes you famous, earns your laurels and rewards, but could affect positively your family, friends, society, nature, animals etc, depending upon the success that you aspired for, and the drive you had to make it a reality. Your simple mission to be yourself and aim to be the best could possibly change the world. WOW, right?
So next time when you are trying for the zenith in the area of your interest, and you genuinely consider yourself to be among the good guys, just remember, don’t just do it for yourself, but do give it a bit extra for the other good guys looking up to you in anticipation.
Also, remember to not let the extra responsibility of making your success a reality be a detriment on yourself, because by being good you are already good enough... so go you.

Middle-East: Practical Solution or Biblical Stalemate
![]() |
| Israel-Palestine Conflict |
A problem as primitive as civilization we know,
Where humanity has lost civility sure & slow.
With medieval maps spawned by imperialism still masquerading
as evidence,
Two of One God’s Children fight it out while the world can
only offer pretense.
Mortars and rockets has muzzled the anguish and stymied the
prayer,
Where the mighty rain fire on innocents when the culprits
hide in their layer.
![]() |
| Love Can Achieve More Than Hate |
Talks carry on when humanity fills the street with stories
of soulless gore,
Where the powerful protect, the weak destroy, & press inks
its horrendous folklore.
Although the existence of either can never be debated or
denied,
Between a hidden monster & a blatant demon, peace has
been brutalized & defiled.
![]() |
| The Middle-East Tragedy |
With the bodies piling up and no end to the killings in
sight on either side,
Why are the culprits still deciding the fate of those who
can only cower and hide?
Are we a generation too nascent for a tussle that is too
biblical to be practical,
Is the blessed land destined to be the domain of the
unfortunate and miserable?
![]() |
| Peace |
Don’t rest assured as if we have time of plenty in a
conflict spanning millennia,
The world has seen enough dismay to realize there is no
hiding from the irony of this godless mania.
Slowly but surely the voice of reason are being drowned out
by the hard-line evil,
It is time for the world to stand up and be counted or
forever be shamed for being too feeble.
![]() |
| A Game of Epic Proportion |
I for one do accept my limitations in suggesting recourse for Palestine, Israel or both,
Yet we need to stand up and be counted no matter the criticism that hurt or the eyes that loathe.
It is getting harder to put people before the fact without
taking a side,
Whilst our efforts for peace & love may fail, take pride
for you and I at least tried.
No point in washing our hands as if it were an issue too far
and too old,
It just could be our story that is currently being foretold.
